Recently on a trip home from the Flinders Ranges on a chilly Monday we stopped in Jamestown for lunch and found a great cafe - Cafe 7 - in the main street - the service and food were fantastic and didn't break the bank either!! Highly recommended.

Beaut town too Dawry.
The local council are spending a few $$$ on doing up the park that runs along the creek. With last nights rain, the creek was almost up to the road crossing.

Jamestown is also the home of RM Williams and his bust stands proudly in a memorial park which is just across the road from a great, modern play ground and what I would have to say, is some of the cleanest public loos I've seen in a long time.

I go through there every fortnight for work and always look forward to a quick break in Jamestown.

BTW...the bakery at Stone Hut is a gem too.

Where is the old fellow? We haven't heard him around of late. I always enjoy those SA wheat belt towns. Great little places and a handy jumping off point for some great South Aussie travels.

Cheers Mick

Fab, when you go through next call into the IGA store in the main street. Ask for me, coffee is always available to ExplorOz travellers.

G'day Richard, yep still here.

Mick O, will let you know re GDEC meet....have mentioned it in passing to 'the girls' (they are the ones I need to keep sweet with)

Ifeellikeanewscreenname, a while ago but as I remember the night was cold and the company good. Perfect recipe for the odd port or two:))))

Cheers

G'Day Michael,
Thanks for the offer but I don't think you'd be open when I come through there. Roughly 1am on a Sunday morning.

Next time you pick up the Sunday Mail....you'll know who dropped it off.
Well, fortnightly anyway.

Cheers anyway.

Will be up there for Saturday's Tiser on the 20th, then the Sunday Mail on the 21st.
Go up as far as Wilmington, then back through Melrose, Murraytown, Wirrabarra, Laura, Gladstone, Georgetown, Gulnare and Yacka.

I do about 650kms in a night....and this is my second job which believe it or not, I do more for the love than the money.

Agreed - and Jamestown is a good stopover when rambling through the mid north of SA - a very tidy town - the Caravan Park is quite good, the Indian Pacific and freight trains rumble through, they have a serious airfield (even small jets have been there) - they have a really big el-swisho supermarket and..... and.... RM liked the place ! (although he probably didn't stay long - heard this am on Macca (ABC) that RM was a camel boy out near Warburton WA when he was only 17.

Hey Darian, have a read of "Beneath Whose Hand" a biography of the life and times of the great RM. A great book about a great man.

Hi Dawry,

Would that be Table 47 in the main street or are you referring to the take-away cafe?

As a "Jamestownian" always interested in the thoughts of those that travel through.

Glad you enjoyed it, and I will pass on your comments to the owner. -which ever one it turns out to be.

Next time you pop through, call over to the IGA store and make yourself known...

Cheers
