Hi all, in November the wife and I are heading over to NSW for a mates wedding and taking along a camper trailer, which will be the first time we have ever used one. The wedding is at Kangaroo Valley Retreat and we want to drive along the coast all the way back to SA and spend a bit of time off the beaten track. Can anyone who has travelled along the coast recommend any good free camping spots or places that they would consider a must-see in Southern and Victoria? As mentioned its the first time with a trailer in tow, I would consider myself reasonably experienced 4wdriving but not with a trailer on the back, so obviously do not want to be driving any hardcore tracks! Thanks in advance

Depot Beach - just over two hours south of Kangaroo Valley. Not free, but cheap bush camping. Beautiful beach and rocks as well as bushwalks. Pop over to North Durras, which is only a 20 minute walk, to the most pristine beach and lake you will find on the south coast. Further south there are some great spots around Bermagui, on the section between Narooma and Tathra.

Jervis Bay is a nice area to visit. There is camping in Booderee National Park, you will need to book and pay for camping though through their office.

Saltwater Creek.

Turn off the Princes Highway onto Edrom Road, 18km south of Eden. After 6km on Edrom Road, turn right onto Green Cape Road. After travelling along Green Cape Road for around 15km, take the turnoff left to Bittangabee (Saltwater) camping ground.

Cheers

Hi 4running,

Go to Parkes, Its has the dish and a big statue and it has the smartest and best looking people in the world.

Dont go to Forbes though, It has a swamp odour and they just arent in the same league as their northern cousins : )

Cheers Wilko

didnt 4running say "coast" and "Victoria"? I know they make em slow in the country but not that slow. My only other assumption is that comment was friendly banter between friends.
Lorne area is a beautiful area though I havent ever camped down that way.

Hi Penchy,

Yes a little bit tongue in cheek but hey if sea levels rise Parkes could be a thriving seaside port in 100 years or so ; )

Cheers Wilko

just googled where Parkes is and it looks a little bit inland of our intended route, and in completely the wrong direction... but the dish does look lovely though!!

lol, strange that people dont know where Parkes is. I would have thought that being the thriving meca that it is, it could stand "shoulder to shoulder" with the likes of Melbourne, Sydney, Goonoo Goonoo and even Canberra

4running's wife here...Parkes...been there done that with my olds! We stopped at either Forbes or Parkes and the supermarket did stock Farmers Union Iced Coffee so we may have to divert just for that :) and as for smartest and best looking people in the world, that would be Normanville, SA ;)

Parkes will stink of rotten seaweed then and they will be wishing they were in the sweet smelling swamps in Forbes:-)
