Has anyone been to or camped at
Karalee Rock in the recent past - certainly since the big fires they had in 2007.
We are thinking of staying a night or two in three weeks time - curious about how wet the tracks might be.

Yes its been a little while but post those fires. the fires in the area burn mostly the yellow sanplain shrub and karalee is amongst the red loam
not sure about how wet the tracks are. i last went there via a back way heading north from Yellowdine and right at the end this track does cross the overflow from the
dam which was wet but firm at the time
you will struggle with firewood in the main
campground

Thanks for the info - we usually only travel via the highway straight through to South Australia (it is normally a situation of getting to the eastern states fast to start our holiday) - we don't have enough time this year so we thought we would spend some time in and around the goldfields, mainly
bush camping - so whilst we know about the area in theory, this time we will be experiencing the bush side of it. It is never too late to look around parts of your own state.
Hopefully the rain is dry up a bit in the next few weeks.

Opps - forgot - really nice photo - guessing that is the
camp site a t Karalee - it looks like there is a brick building in the background - is that a
toilet block? - most reports say that there isn't any
toilets at Karalee.

Hi
We were there about 8 weeks ago and will probably stop in again this Sunday on way to Kal.
The road in off the highway is fine.
Toilets are there and were clean.
While there is not a caretaker on site somebody nearby looks after things. Not sure how that works. There is a contact number on
toilet door if there are any problems.
As stated above you will have to take your own wood.

Thanks for that - we were were told by the Goldfields Tourist people that it is a good idea to carry our own wood. Looking forward to spending some quiet time
bush camping complete with open fire - when we last camped (mostly in the eastern states) we found that
camp fires were "out" literally - so sad, we really missed that part of camping.
... leave only footprints and a
well doused fireplace.

We enjoyed staying at Karalee Rocks /
Dam last time on our way to
Perth. It is a very nice spot. We also stayed at
Moorine Rock (
The Rock not the Town!), which was not bad watching the sun set over
the rock. The tracks should be okay if not raining when you travel in.

another suggestion would be to head from coolfgardie to
burra rocks and now there is a dirt road from there to
cave hill and from
cave hill to widgiemooltha which take in some very nice areas of the goldfeilds woodland on your way East

Image Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundHi Jo-Anne
A bit of an update.
The road in off the hwy is fine.
It was 30 degrees on the Sunday arvo.
The flies are bad already. The midgies are in swarms after dark. You can't use a head torch because they get in your eyes and mouth. The march flies may be out in a couple of weeks and they may also be a problem.
The National Trust are looking after the site and have some very informative
sign posted walks. A walk over
the rock is also
well worth it.
We have posted some photos of the area at the moment.
A bit of yellow and purple on the verges going through Boorabbin National Park
and heaps of yellow going through Goldfields National Park.
Hope you enjoy your trip.

Many thanks for that - midgies are always a worry but we are all set to give it a go - the
wildflowers look lovely - can't wait to see them. 30 degrees - wow - I am completely over rain and winter - but I'm guessing I will enjoy snuggling up under my doona at night - I think it might be a night inside the (slide-on) camper - but we will have a go, thanks again.
