I did look for this on the forum without any luck.

Which way is best? To the east up the Cordillo Downs Road or to the west above Moomba on the public access route through Walkers Crossing to the Birdsville Track and then north to Birdsville?

Thanks Baz.

Maybe it would be best to go the Cordillo Downs Road.

I tend to stay away from the non forum pages on this site. They take ages to load here. 5 minutes for the Places page on Cloncurry to load yesterday. Just use the search function on the forum. I just use the forum. I am not a member so I get all the advertisments.

I prefer to head out to the Dig Tree, north to Arrabury then accross via Cordillo. Road is normally in better condition with far less washed out creeks. A big day if in transit or 2 days taking your time.
As already mentioned there will be no possibility of taking the short cut via Wakers Crossing for well over a year.
Cheers Craig..............

Phil, was out hat way a few weeks back and the Cordillo Road is in good nick. There is a lot of work being done on it at the northern end. Mooda Lake (10 km short of the Birdsville Road Intersection) is a great spot to camp at present being full of water.

Cheers Mick

Cordillo Road is fantastic at the moment I went that way last week

Walkers Crossing and the Bore Track were Closed at that time. According to the locals the property owners dont like them being used so they stick up a sign saying closed.

Cheers

Apparently the Bore Track was wrecked by some bike riders so they closed it. Fair enough too. It's a private road.

Hi Phil

When we were heading to Birdsville a couple of weeks ago, we ran into Larry McMahon who is a Grader driver of the outback roads and he was saying the Cordillo Road was graded around 6 weeks ago and is the best it has been.

Walkers Crossing is still out and will be for a long time yet.

Cheers

We will see what the locals say. The Cordillo Downs Road is a lot shorter than the longer way past Haddens Corner and therefore, time wise, may be the best choice. Good to see its been graded. Almost 200Kms difference.
