Hi all
We are about to head to
Tibooburra soon and will be going to camerons corner. We then aim to go to Innaminka then to
Birdsville.
After looking at maps etc, there seems to be plenty of options- however with all the water around, what roads are open and which ones would the members here reccomend i take. With have a Rodeo and off road camper, want to keep to goodish roads (not extreme sandy tracks etc) as we are travelling alone.
We cant wait to do the Cooper Ck ferry!!!! Stephen L's photos are awesome!
We just need to research which passes\permits etc we will need!
Look forward to your suggestions and help.
Cheers
Doey

Hi Doey,
We travelled from Innaminka along the New Strezlecki to Merty Merty. The road there is fairly
well maintain by the mining companies. From Merty Merty to Camerons corner you will come across corrugation and thick bulldust. When travelling over the rises be careful on the descents as you will come across large potholes and bulldust. We came through that section 2 weeks ago on our own with a ford
ranger and trailer. Like all outback roads if you drive to the conditions you should be fine. From camerons corner to
Tibooburra the track was much easier. It's best to
check with the locals when you are there, because what is good today may not be tomorrow.
You should be ok with your setup to travel that section.
Cheers and have great time.
Steven

i would go to Camerons Corner, head to Merty but stop short as there is a short cut to the Strezilecky and cut accross and head down to Maree and up the
Birdsville track and you get to cross the Coopers but
check the lenght of you unit first as you may be to long to fit on the ferry .....

Doey,
Wife and I did this trip a couple of weeks ago towing a 20ft Kedron. The road from
Tibooburra was okay to the Sturt camping ground. We stayed the night there and proceeded to the corner next morning. We struck about 22klms of corrugations but just slowed down.
From Camerons corner we followed the road to the new Strezlecki over the sand dunes and via the yellow bus. Caution is required over the dunes as they seem to have deteriorated at the top but all we did here was spill a few plates out of the cupboards and ingest some dust. The road over the dunes is capped with a hard base but we found it a bit loose at the tops.
The Strez was good till way past Moomba so we camped about 10klms past Moomba. The mining companies were grading at the time and road was excellent. gets a bit rougher towards
Innamincka but just slow down.
Regards
Jim

Thanks guys.
That gives some ideas.
We have checked and will fit on the ferry but prepared to pay the bloke with the truck if needed. Will take it slow and drive to the conditions. That way we can take in the scenery as
well!
Cheers
