It is possible and reasonable ( philosophy on trailers in the Simpson aside) to cross from the
Hay River to Old
Andado ( E-W) with a 100 series diesel turbo and a
Kimberley Kamper? It would be early in the season.
The person has crossed QAA, WAA & French Line with the same configuration.
Has anyone done it, and if so it is too much work or ok?

The
Madigan Line is totally different to the other main roads in the
Simpson Desert, the QAA. WAA and French Line are walks in the
park or major freeways and should not really be compared to the Madigan hence why only a handful tackle it..
Yes can be done with a camper depending on experience and fuel carrying capacity, the only downside I would see with a
Kimberley is the HUGH wheel base.... the might get the draw bar stuck on some dunes.
Again it comes down to vehicle set-up and experience..... mostly experience.
The Madigan will show up any faults with vehicle and trailer very quickly and turn them into big headaches.
I'm sure you will get many telling you how bad it is towing a camper and how you should be ashamed of yourselves even thinking about it but the truth is most who will tell you this have never done it and in most cases never towed a real off road camper before or just lack in there capabilities..

Having done the madigan early this season ( although from west to east) I would suggest it would be very likely that what you are proposing is feasible.
from 16-6 is a
well defined track with few big dunes.
Our travel time for this section was 2 days ,8.30am till 5 pm with plenty of stops.
went from just outside the Aboriginal area betwween c5 and c6 to c 11 - 1 day and then 20 minutes on a middle day before resting at Madigans clay pan between c11 and c12.from there to
camp 16 the next day.
I would consider that part of the madigan easier than the bulk of the simpson because it is nowhere near as cut up and has smaller dunes in the main.
still wouldnt attempt it without company.
The big one way dunes that would not be possible east to west are between camps 16 and 18.
I assume you intend to exit via colsen and french line to west.
good luck with the trip
cheers
Howard

No point in taking a trailer out there - its too rough and a trailer is just dead weight.

Just crossed west to east up to c16 only in August this year towing our Ultimate ct.
Myself & others in the group often commented as we dropped down a steep curved dune that an opposite approach would be extremely difficult with a ct.
Maybe possible with friends & big snatch straps with plenty of time.
Try the opposite direction first, you could always have a practice run t'other way.
Remember to fire up the generator at Old
Andado if no
water in the
tank.
Cheers John

Thanks to everyone,
I was considering swapping over to W-E anyway given that we are pretty early in the season. This kind of reconfirms it even if the trailer doesn't come.

Towing a heavy camper with a long drawbar like the Kimberly would be very difficult West to East. Going the other way would be extremely stressful on both the car & the entire group.
