Hi All

The gas struts on my 2001 Campomatic have run out of lift. I am contemplating fitting stronger units as used on the later model Campomatic to make it all a bit easier to fold and wonder how well it works. Any experience or tips on fitting new struts would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Try www.struts.com.au
They are a Melbourne based company who I have used before. will make up struts any way you like. Give them the centres and the strength and they will make it up. if you are in Melbourne they come out and make them up on site.

Cheers,
Ben

And even better still, you may find they can re-pressurise the existing ones.

Even when new struts are installed, they are "pumped up" afterwards

Spot on Bill,
I forgot I had some simply regassed on site. He pumped them up tried them out, then upped the pressure if required. Easiest way to get them perfect.

Mine was an 04 made by the original owners - when my struts stopped 'struttin' I phoned the new Campo owners (Trakshak) and they sent two new struts over - Chinese product of course, but seemed fine to me - can't recall the cost but it must have been low enough for me not to bother with the alternatives - and the right part, first time.

Had new struts made up for our 2001 Camp-O- Matic by a strut manufacturer in Strathpine Qld as was close to home at the time , took old struts in and new ones made "on the spot" with an extra 50Nm than the originals that had 750Nm, when fitted the new struts worked great at opening the camper BUT were just that bit to powerfull when time to compress at packup ,, returned struts to maker next day and had pressure redone back to 750Nm ,, PERFECT.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and suggestions. I have also been speaking to Murray at Campomatic who has been very helpful. I have decided to fit the stronger struts as used on the later models, which he assures me work well and if they turn out to be too strong will get the pressure reduced to a suitable level through some trial and error.

Now for the fun!
