Gday all,
Just had a great run up the Sandy Blight, across through Alice and down the
Andado Track, only hassle was the smoke which made photography on the
Andado Track pretty limited. Mate got home to find SWMBO was having problems with their 2002 Pajero, turns out the pump and injectors are shot, anyone out there have a blown Paj motor and want to get rid of a Pump etc, let me know. Anyway back to the trip, it was great to catch up with Jeff at Mt. Dare and the dip in Dalhousie is always welcome.
Now for everyone who wants to jump on my Mitsi, it did have a problem on the trip, a problem I would like some help with. On my vehicle it has 3 rack mounting tabs on each side, the front one of these broke free, we controlled it with Rachet Straps but how do I go about re attaching the clip, my thoughts are to lower the roof lining, remove the rubber in the groove and Tig Weld it, any other ideas would be great.
Cheers

What exactly is wrong with your friend's DID. Many of us DID owners have been given the grim diagnosis of stuffed pump and injectors only to find out (in my case after 3 pumps and a set of injectors) it was simply an "engine speed sensor". This costs about 1/200th the price of a pump and injectors - it's similar to a crank angle sensor and is bolted to the exterior of the pump. Is it misfiring only when hot? And does the tacho dance all over the place? if so this is a tell-tale
sign of the fault.
With regards to yours & the roof tabs - they are known to rip them out when heavily loaded. A better fix is to swap over to the Rola track mount system where new tracks are riveted in to the roof channel. This gives the added benefit of adjustability. I have a set on
mine.
Lastly, come have a look at the pajeroclub forums for a lot of detail on these problems.

TX for the feedback,
His has absalutly no power, it can't even carry 5th gear, or for that matter fourth when cold. Pump has been sent to
Melbourne and they say its dead. I am sure he would be thrilled if it was the sensor but it doesnt misfire, tacho is rock solid even though it doesn't move far :-)
As for the racks, that does sound like a great idea, I will have to look into that one, again Thanks.
Cheers

Unusual fault. No power in one is usually just a turbo hose blown off, a faulty turbo, or a stuck inlet butterfly.

Again thanks for the response, but turbo has been tested and boost pressure is fine, Inlet has been replaced just in case and of course the hoses have been checked and rechecked. Unfourtunatly it all points to the very thing that he sent to Victoria for testing.
It is in fact running very similar to another mate who got some junk from a fill up in his 3ltr nissan and that also turned out to be the pump, symptoms are exactly the same.

Yep Michael, if this is my only problem after all the tracks it has done, I can't be upset about a roofrack attachment point.

Gday NTVRX,
Just spoke to the Mitsi dismantler, and the wise one down their says you would need the chip and everything with NS model to put it in the mates 2002. I sent the seller a message to see if the chip is with it. Will be a neat fix if he has it for somewhere less than a pound of flesh :-)
