Following the Murry to its mouth.

I have picked Bourke as our starting point to follow the Murry to its mouth & are looking for advice, information & feed back on bush camping & places of interest that a person who has not travelled this area before may drive past not knowing what their missing.
I have Camps 6 as a guide but if anyone can give more information on the spots they have listed or camp spots that may not be listed this would be greatly appreciated.
We will be starting out trip in April May 2012 with our 4wd & off road camp trailer so out of the way spots should be OK. We are totally self sufficient as long as there are a few sunny days each week & if not a stay at a powered site once a week will keep us going.
I only have 3 weeks to complete this trip so I plan to break it into 4 to 5 stops staying at each stop for 4 days & taking in what the area has to show us.
Any type of info on places between Bourke & Lake Alexandrina that along the river are welcome in planning my trip.
Thanks,
Michael.

Michael,

Trilby Station just south of Louth is a good Station Stay spot right on the Darling River and has a heap of history to explore whilst there. We intend to go back there very soon :)

Cheers Kev

You are not going to see very much of the Murray river if you start from Bourke, you will be following the Darling river down to Wentworth for a start then next stop is the SA VIC border and it is not a real great distance from there to the mouth.
The Murray river starts somewhere east of Corryong in Vic and from the there to Wentworth where the Darling runs into it is quite a long way , so you have missed most of it. Better revise the plans if you really want to see it all...or most of anyway...cheers And 3 weeks ? , not much time...

Thanks Rooster for pointing this out & you are correct but for this trip I'm following the Murry Darling to its mouth & was looking for information on this area, so if you do have some I will be glad to take it on board. Maybe another trip I will see the rest of the Murry.
Michael.

Hi Michael and Jill,

A place that we particularly enjoyed was Fort Courage, a CP west of Wenworth on the northern bank of the river. Some more info is here

It would be worth taking a run along the northern bank as the road takes in some semi-desert areas and the country has quite a remote area feel.

Cheers,

Val.

Hi Michael.

There's a recent (last five days) thread on the Darling which is relevant.

Cheers.
