Read your manual Mate !
Probably something like "sell call mute"
Once had a Uniden, and i had to go back to the manual to fix.
Now I have an Icom 400 Pro, finally figured it out, but a copy of the simplified manual is in Poootrol all the time
Cheers

Hi Gooba, how have you wired the power supply to the radio? If you have just picked up a wire under the dash for 12v+ then you could be suffering a voltage drop when you start the engine. If the drop is enough it can cause the radio to lock up as I have had this happen with an earlier model GME. Try and run both wires from the radio to the battery and connect straight to the battery terminals. I'd also get the battery and the cables to the starter motor checked in case this is the problem.
I don't think its Sellcall or CTCSS related as you wouldn't be able to hear other transmissions but you would be able to change channels and the backlights would be on.
Any questions ask away, Cheers Darryn

Rule number one with electronic stuff is this. Turn off all power to the unit (not just turn off) remove the fuse or or the wire (s) if you can find them.
Wait at least half an hour but several hours would be better.
connect up and turn on.
This method allows the setup to to reset to default. Removing the power lets the capacitors/ battery backups in the unit to lose charge and the bodgy settings to disappear.
When this does not work,
well you have a real problem and a warranty issue or junk it solution. But its the first thing to do in the process of elimination.
But from what you have said it sounds like a power supply fault or the mike. See if you can borrow a mike. bring a power source from another point.
I have had a radio that would not light up at all without the mike plugged in.

I should have added that i only have had the car since march - no manuals, but downloaded one -didn't help me.I will
check the power supply - we have a good sparkie that work uses -will chase it up.Otherwise gemcom at
newcastle i guess. Do you need a receipt for warranty work - i think its under 2 years old.Thank all for the replies ,will post whensolution is found .
