Gidday all,
Has anyone stopped here for an "ovrenighter"? I know that there are no
toilets or showers.
What is the track/road in like. Is it accessible by normal 2 wheel drive vehicle towing a van?
Thanks in advance
Mick

Hi Fred, You are certainly right about DEC not having any info about the Lake
Dumbleyung Nature Reserve, but it is definitely no
camping.
Brookton is in the wrong region :(

Hi MH,
well, that is even worse then, because that (
Brookton) is the location provided by the DEC website....

Hi Fred - my search of DEC brought up a blank area for location! Perhaps
Brookton is where there is a DEC office, which might explain why they know nothing about it LOL. Lake
Dumbleyung is in the
Dumbleyung Shire.

Hi MH,
I rang
Dumbleyung Shire this morning. They were quite happy for us to
camp there overnight. She just warned us that there were no
toilets or showers, other than that she said "go for it". I just wanted to find out the track conditions and the conditions once in there.
Cheers

Shhhhh, don't tell anyone Mick. The official line from the Shire is no, although I'll bet you won't be the first to have stopped there. You can take a short walk up pussy cat
hill from the car
park to a
memorial dedicated to Donald Campbell and a great view.

Hi Mick
Signed No
Camping. Small
parking area overlooking lake would be no trouble to access, but track down to lake edge signed no caravans. We stopped at the
parking area with our big rig, so did not investigate the quality of the track down to the lake's edge.
Hot shower available free at the
toilet block in the centre of town, also showers at the roadhouse.
Image Could Not Be Found
Very different to 1964 with a lake full of
water and crowds at the
water's edge watching Donald Campbell's
water speed record attempts.
If looking for a quick overnighter, I doubt you would be disturbed much at the old grain loading siding near the turn off to the lake. Not hidden from the road though and would have some traffic noise as it does not completely stop all night.

I was there a few years ago when the lake was nearly full again after many years being empty. I towed a 26' trailer sailer to the shed that was once a sailing club & launched there. That's on the north side of the lake, past the
elevated lookout.
I did stop at the
lookout back then and walked the rest to check access but no drama with a 26 footer. Its fairly steep in
places if I remember right perhaps check the road past the
lookout before proceeding, its not far to walk. Nice shady area at the shed but not a lot of room for many rigs.
