It only accepts where is if it is the Toyota one. Version 17 has a lot more info and lots of tracks. but it is still an on road GPS only.

Have a look at the A-Sure in dash gps unit, you will find them on EBay
A lot of the NewHilux members have them, they have the correct plugs and fit fine.
similar to a lot of the othe chinese units but they seem to offer good support for their product if needed
Can run all of your off road mapping on them as
well
No affiliation etc etc

They probably dont think that a Prado is capable for going off blacktop, hence the road map software :-)

Update from Toyota will cost you $300. Cheaper to mount an existing unit in front of the sceen. We use our Navman and ignore the inbuilt one. Even so far out of date it didn't have roads that had been there for 50 years or more.

Thanks TassieD , yeah after reading the reply's i.m starting to think thats the way to go , we have a Tomtom already , but was hoping that we could utilize whats there in dash ,, might just have to go back to the old ways , follow my nose in and when i get lost , follow my tracks back out .
