Comment: Walkers Crossing

I think these sort of posts originate in the Comments section of the associated article and the person making the comment doesn't expect it to appear in the Forum, just in the list of Comments under the article.

Like I have done with this comment.

It would be good if there was an option to have these comments restricted to the article, otherwise they appear to be a bit short on substance.

Thanks for your feedback. We have purposely ensured that Article comments cross-link to the forum as most times people ask questions that are best answered in the Forum and aren't actually things that we can answer as site administrators. We used to give the option as you suggest (has been there for 5 years) but most people didn't use it correctly. Auto-creating Forum posts out of article feedback also gives people the best chance of a quick response if they want one, and in the case of a comment, provides the best way of letting people know about further info, such as track closed (if it is breaking news, then that is a great way to alert people). We have recently changed the feedback system to allow people to choose the type of feedback they leave, either COMMENT, REVIEW, QUESTION. For some people, they only know the article exists, and don't know the Forum is there to provide a way to discuss a topic.

David and Michelle,

Bushy has identified something I wasn't aware of and also thought the forum "posts" were a bit shor on substance at times.

Perhaps a link in the post to the originating thread or article would make it clearer to everybody.

Bill,

Isn't the article linked in the top right of the thread?

Cheers Kev

The link is there Kev, but it's not, in the original "comment" entry window. There's nothing to indicate that what is essentially a brief comment on the article, is actually going to appear in the Forum where it generally looks a bit short of detail and can reflect poorly on the person posting the comment; and I'm sure that is not the intention of either the poster or David & Michelle.
