There is a fire burning at the moment north of Muncoonie, west of
Glengyle and Kamaran Downs which has a 65 klms front - Ian could tell me that last night sitting in
Birdsville the glow from the fire was enormous and that's 100 klms roughly south of the fire. The wind is coming from the south today but for the last few days it has been blowing from the wrong direction.
All their good feed following the floods. Thinking about them today. Some of you would have been in that country at times.

Thanks Ruth. We flew over much of that country in July. Would have found it hard to get a fire started then.

Beyond description! Jim Smith from
Bedourie pub (we stayed over night) took us for a drive before breakfast past Eyre
Creek to the old camel train crossing on King
Creek and to the top of the rise above Cluny Station so we could see the flood plains. After breakfast we took off and flew over it again, low enough to see the pelicans flying along the streams. I hope the memory never fades.
Next time it floods I will seriously consider booking a
seat on the mail run to see it under
water.

Jim Smith is one of the good guys - good tour guide as
well. Did you meet his Mum?
Did he take you up in his plane - sometimes he flies down to
Birdsville to pick up bread!

We didn't meet Mum but read all about her on the hotel wall. Our Wrights Air tour plane parked next to Jim's for the night. He and our pilot got on like old mates. That sty at Jim's pub was a highlight of the tour.

Hi Ruth.
Long time no speak to.
This is going to be an all to common story this summer I fear.
Hopefully it will not be too wide spread.
all the best

Hi Ruth,
A couple of weeks ago my husband went to head off to work and got as far as Ballerra, saw the glow heading towards Cooks
well and turned back to
camp. As it turned out the chopper didnt have enough hours to circle the burnt area up the Arrabury Rd it is so huge. We were out mustering near Lake Yamma yamma on the mulga w/hole and a couple days after we left they were fighting fires from the Tanbar
homestead. Its pretty scary stuff. No fire trucks out there. Hope it rains so they go out.
