Are there any other Concept caravans out there with water leaks. I have a Franklin Xtrail by Concept. my van was delivered in February 2008. I had a leak at the back of the van fixed under warranty after 6mts, I was told it came from the top centre stop light. now I find the back wall is moving and it looks like wood rot in the back of the van, I know of two other Concept vans with similar problems and am wondering if there are any others out there. G'day Pop, a very dissapointing result from such a new van. As you have evidence of the original leak, under warranty, I would be pressing the dealer/manufacturer for
some action. The issue is obviously not unknown..collect any info of other cases & in
the event of no action..take the matter to the appropriate Consumer Protection
agency in your state..........oldbaz.

Thanks Oldbaz, I certainly will be contacting Concept when the repairer gets to me and I know the extent of the problem. Most repairers in Brisbane are backed up with insurance work till around April 2012 but I am pushing them. Pop

My van was repaired by ******* but the repair was done by putting ply over the old ply which is a cover up. Found this out by taking out the outside courtsey light and the old ply could be seen. Have kept my photos and it was effecting our health due to stress and had to sell at three and a half years as there wern't too many areas that weren't leaking.
The foam sealing strip under the J mold was a big problem at the back of the van, once again the photos show this in good detail and i complained about it but was told by the manufacturer not to worry as the van will not leak.
Lost $30,000 after three and a half years. Not a pleasent experience.
If you send a Ph number to auntycollar@hotmail.com, i will contact you when weare in service again.
Will be out of service for about 7 days .

hi pop
not good and is very disheartening for a van to have that problem at it age

but that area around lights has always been a problem from day one with any brand of van if the lights are installed without a decent seal
doesn't mater at what height the lights are
if there is no seal or a poor quality seal water will get in and wood rot starts immediately
i repaired a friends van where the water had started rotting the floor in the rear wardrobe area as well as the rear lining from leaking light installations

with the 3 vans i have owned as soon as i got them i remove the rear and side lights and put butyl mastic around them and under the lenses from day one to stop it happening..

on older vans around the windows was another area that had to be sealed well
i would be looking at the light bases and lens seals are there any ???
remove it and see if any sealing compound was put in place to stop original leak

i would be pushing the dealer for repairs in total as its obvious this is a result of previous problems that were skimmed over and hidden by a cheap fix job wood takes a while to decompose
as mentioned compile yours and other evidence and try to get with other effected owners and put the supplier back in the corner
cheers and good luck

Hi Pop. This post is from the Caravaners Forum but it may give you an idea of what you are up against. The poster is a van repair specialist and may be of some further help to you if you were to make contact. Cheers,Bob

Just last night I sat alongside a couple at a 4WD Club meeting who own a Concept - they told me that over 4 years of ownership, they have had problems with most areas of the van from major water leaks (holes missing screws letting water in to lack of sealing) to wiring problems & appliances falling out of mountings. They have also found staples through 240v cables !!!! They have found the Gosford dealer to be uninterested in their problems & now the local caravan repair place (where Concept have authorised some repairs) will no longer touch the van around the rot issue. I have not seen the issues first hand & they volunteered this information when we got talking about vans and the dealer as I too have had negative experiences with the dealer in recent times but not over a Concept van. I know the couple & trust their portrayal of the situation they face. The van is four years old and of course out of warranty. It seems to me that the RV industry is begging for some stricter controls not only around standards & quality but also some type of reporting process so that potential buyers can be more aware of the issues with the product they are buying. Let's face it, most vanners are parting with anything between $40k & $60k & that is a major purchase & a lot of money to have such significant worry about - not to mention the apprehension that something further will go wrong when you are on the road well away from home.

Year mate who do you trust, there are so many vans out there and so many brands I have never heard of. I suppose where there is a quick buck corners will be cut. Pop
