I am looking at driving
Perth -
Townsville in Mid Jan 2012. Considering the option of GCR and
Plenty highway. It will be a straight through drive as the idea is to spend as much time in
Townsville with family as I can.
I know the weather (rain) might be an issue but will asses that at the time.
Can anyone advise on brand of fuel available on GCR. I have a novated lease 120 Prado and have Shell and Cattex fuel card and would like to use them if possible - saves all the hassle getting reciepts and claiming back.

I would
hazard a guess that once you leave
Laverton if you're lucky, then your fuel cards will be of little use until you get to
Alice Springs. Then probably the same situation from Alice to possibly
Boulia or
Winton. Also away from the mainstream towns you will encounter Opal non-aromatic fuel. You did not state if you have diesel or petrol. Regardless of the fuel situation enjoy the drive, we have travelled both roads quite a bit and it is always interesting. We are coming to
Perth in December so can give you updates of the GCR if you like.

There is a Shell at
Yulara, so you could use your card there.
Caltex in
Winton too. Think
Boulia only has Choice now.
In mid-January, need to keep an eye on Georgina River, at Glenormiston. Usually plenty of reports available if it's over the road.
Sandover H'way is also an option, as long as you go up through Austral Downs, onto the Barkly H'way. Think fuel might be available at Alparra store. Might pay to ring Austral (07 47484811), if you decided to go this way. Any
sign of storms, then would pay to go around Stuart/Barkly route.
Bob.

Most of these fuel companies will provide the outlet information online, some like Shell will even give you he GPS coordinates.
Shell fuel outletsCaltex trip planner
Using both these and a bit of your time, you should have all the information that you need.

G'day mate,
There are no options for fuel cards of any brand on the GCR. For shell and
Caltex, you're last chance is
Leonora, then again at
Yulara.
Choice at
Boulia used to take
Caltex cards, not sure if they still do.
Cheers
Al

Thanks for advice. Is as I expected. Looks like I will need to collect receipts and claim back from lease company.
All being
well I will see you in mid Jan. if weather looks OK.
