connie sue highway

Evening all, looking into planning for next year's holidays. Am thinking about doing Karratha - warburton - Connie Sue - Cocklebiddy then back to Karratha say for about 3 weeks in maybe June/ July 2012. travelling in a 60 series cruiser that is more than capable . Looking for a bit more of a challenge after the Tanami this year. Will most probably have travelling buddies from the 4wd club. Cheers in advance Wayne (pilbara60)

Wayne,

This will be a great trip for you, I've travelled the Connie Sue twice now and would do it again. Nothing too extreme but good 4WD along parts of the track.
Great country and plenty to see and do along the way. Make sure you research the trip well before hand and you won't be disappointed, just keep the batteries charged in the camera.

enjoy,

Mike

Hi Wayne

This is a great drive and I think better than the Anne Beadell. Only about 40 kilometres of bad corrugations compared to 1300 plus kilometres on the AB.

You will find many out of the way great little spots and features to see along the way, and some very special spots that very few people get to see.

Don't rush the drive and you will have a ball.

Cheers

might have to sweet talk the co-driver as she doesnt like driving all day /camp one night then move off again. have the fuel range in the old truck , roof top tent etc , just need a larger water tank and maybe heat exchanger for showers and the truck will be finished. cheers wayne

Hi Wayne

Providing that it has not been damaged, there is good drinking water at the Cooper Hills Solar Bore, just after crossing the Cooper Creek.

I have posted a few more images below to wet your appetite.

Ditto to all of the above....I did it in June this year; badly corrugated in the northern section around yapapurra otherwise rough, rocky and washed out in places but quite trafficable. Rawlinna to Cocklebiddy rough and stoney but no corrugations also a bit confusing in places so carry good maps or oziexplorer/hema. FromNeale Junction south for a couple of hundred k's freshly graded. An awesome trip through some of the remotest country with much to see. It took me 3 days and two nights and I did not see one fellow traveller. I would do it again.

Hi Ian

If you are like me and like to poke around and look at everything that there is to see, then you can quite easy fill in that time along the way. We camped 2 nights out on the Sydney Yeo Ranges Track.

There is some great scenery along the way to take your time exploring it all. One spot that no one should miss out on seeing is the Neale Breakaways - fantastic.

Here are some photos of what you can see along the way:

Stephen, I recognise the art site I think I have a photo very similar to your's. That particular spot is fantastic and one of my favourites in the GVD.

As an aside Parallel Road No 2 is well worth a drive down as well if you don't mind cutting off the top end of the Connie.

Mm don't really know other than an educated guess , I think the lower photo may be a track for a mini excavator or even a fitting like chains that would fit over a rubber tyre.

No I don't recall seeing the tracks(?) but it was 3 years ago and old fellows disease is catching up on me LOL.

We tried the Connie Sue earlier this year but unfortunately got washed out at Rawlinna and had to divert to Kalgoorlie. Hopefully try again sometime soon.

Its a great trip though really not a huge challenge. Unless it rains of course, then it can be very interesing. Some info in this link about fuel usage.

Just watch out for the 'turnoff' to Rawlinna on Connie Sue after Neale Junction. The road veers around to the Right and appears to be the main road but the Connie Sue goes straight down.
