I need to glue a controller to the back of a solar panel. I've tried double sided tape and liquid nails but both have let go in the heat. Anyone know what will adhere to the plastic backing?
Thanks,
Ron.

Ron,
Try Sikaflex 292. I used it to attach my controller to a portable set of panels and it has worked extremely well. It allows some flex with temp changes with brilliant adhesive quality. (There is also a marine quality - 292i) if the panels are exposed a lot.
I have no affiliation to the product company. Just a happy user.
Cheers

Ron,

Just before you do. I believe putting the controller near the panel is considerably less efficient than putting it closer to the battery.

You might want to check that angle out.

hi ron
i used roof and gutter silicon 4 decent dobs on the underneather on the corners
and if you need to remove controller at any time just slide a razor knife through the silicon taking care not to scratch the rear of the solar panel with the razor
in respect to the controller being on the back of the panel and not close to the battery

i have mine on the panel back of the 80watt folding solars with a heavy duty 4mtr lenght of cable feeding the power to the battery and havent had any problems keeping the large d/cycle battery charged

but i do recall quiet a discussion took place on explore-oz about 18-24mths ago and the solar experts on here claimed you get better charge rate with the controller close to the battery
in my case i had no where to mount the controller on my camper out of harms way so chose the alternative which has proved to be very satisfactory
so its your call really
i'm not defaming their advice but simply saying the alternative works ok cheers barry

Rnn,

You would be better off connecting the controller to the other end of the cable. (battery end)

I have just bought and installed a CTEC D250S Dual DC-DC battery charger into my camper trailer to improve charging of the on board batteries. The D250S take both vehicle alternator and/or solar panel input and as part of my installation, I have bypassed the cheap regulator on my portable bi-fold solar panels so that "raw" solar input can be regulated by the MPPT technology of the internal solar regulator on the D250S.

Thanks for your recomendations for the different Glue. I'm aware of the pros and cons of the regulator being more efficient nearer the battery. Can't do in my case.
Thanks,
Ron.
