I have a question. I have an adapter that works with all my 12v appliances. So when I get out of the truck and go
home I can use everything with the wall plug in my house. This is
United States, 120v.
Why doesn't my Waeco Fridge/Freezer work with this same adapter? It shouldn't matter what the voltage is, 120v. It is being converted to 12v so it is just as if it were being plugged in the truck.
So I guess I'm going to have to buy some $80 USD adapter to make it work?
This makes no sense to me whatsoever. All my other 12v appliances and gadgets work with my current adapter.

Derek,
Perhaps the Waeco fridge requires a specificly configured DC input cable that is only provided by the genuine Waeco adaptor.
Have you tried the original Waeco AC to DC power pack with a US to AUS adaptor?
These are available in luggage supplier stores for just a few dollars.
"Korjo" is the brand of the adaptors I use when overseas and need to run various chargers, shaver, etc. from a US power outlet.
Of course the AC adaptor would need to be auto adjusting for varying AC input voltage. (eg. 240vAC to 120vAC)

Hi Derek
Possibly your adapter simply is not large enough to supply the start up current of the fridge MOTOR
But why not run it from your mains supply [240v]??
Or is it that you have a 240v to110v step down transformer installed & NO 240v available??
If so ,not exactly a good set up with safety problems
& certainly not approved under the standards as confirmed by a state ESO

This is
United States 120V not Australia. Some 12V powersuplies wont handle the startup current of the fridge. I use a 15A 12V powersupply for my Waeco fridge.

Hi Dbish
Unless I have misread the OP he is in S Aus
I believe he has an imported van [USA 110v] Which has simply been fitted with a 240v to 110v step down transformer
To use all his 12v gear he has a 110v to 12v converter.
A dodgy set up , not approved under the Aus standards as confirmed by a state ESO
But a common practise done by those who do not understand the safety implications & the almost impossible means of complying with As /NZS 3000 Cl 7.4

Hi Db
cannot edit but not realy certain where he is after rereading his post, but agree it is most likely due to insufficient capacity to meet start up currentas in my original answer
