Gday all,
Wondering If anyone has camped along Gippsland lakes National
park. We will be passing that area the week before Christmas and was wondering If anyone would be in the know If this place gets busy at this time of year.
We were thinking of
camping mid week for 2 nights around 20th December before returning to
Sydney.
Any Info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

G'day INGO57
You should have little trouble getting a site BEFORE Xmass , after new year it gets very crowded. Between Seaspray & Golden Beach are 20 areas each able to fit 1 to 10 camps, all tucked in coastal teatree - great shelter.NE of Golden Beach (Letts Beach) is a larger more formalised
camp / caravan area. All these are 100 meters from the 90 mile beach and are free (hope Parks NSW is listening ). If you find it too crowded head towards
Loch Sport and turn left to
LAKE VICTORIA (
RED BLUFF / THALIA POINT) and
camp on GIPSLAND LAKES --- free again . Dont forget mosquito repellent.

Hi Ingo
If you get the chance go to Croagingalong (I think thats how you spell it) National
Park about 20 Ks? out of Cann River. Its a real little treasure, lots of
camping pretty much on
the beach and a great walk up to Port Hicks Lighthouse, it probably isn't as
well known as the Gippsland Lakes area but it really is worth it if you have the time. Also lots of mozzies.
Regards Linda.

The
camp-site mentioned above in Croajingalong is called Thurra River. You could also
camp at Mueller inlet which only a couple of K's away and has private sites by the estuary. no fires though. I agree Linda, it's a magic spot. Will probably be no-one there the week before
Easter.
As far as those camps go from Golden Beach to Seaspray, some have drop dunnies. I like the camps around "Wreck Beach". I've used
Camp 11 a few times and love it as the dunes are at their highest around here giving good ocean
views just meters from your
camp. Enjoy.
Oh, bring firewood to the 90 Mile Beach and Croajingalong if you go there. Take a side route and pick some up on the way. Don't forget the best Mozzie Repellent you can find and watch out for March Flies on
the beach.

Thanks guys,
The tip off with the mozzies is noted, nothing worse than the after effects of kids that have been attacked by the blood suckers.
Any recomendations in regards to fishing around the 90 mile beach area?
Cheers

Ingo, you can catch mostly Salmon, Flathead and Gummy Sharks. Bait fishing is best with Blue/White Bait, Pilchards or Squid. Flat conditions are rare, it's Bass Strait, so a Surf Rod is preferred. Good luck.
