Hi all, can someone tell me the road conditions from Mittagong to Nowra nsw,
reason asking wife not keen on winding roads gets nausea etc, we will be towing a van 15' , I'm hoping its not to winding and if there's much hill climbing, this is one road I havent used...will be heading for Batesman Bay..
cheers
Stan

Hi Stan,

I suggest that you take the Hume Highway towards Sydney from Mittagong then Picton Rd exit to Wollongong and south to Nowra which will take you down Mt Ousley on the Freeway.

It is longer but not so winding and hilly (or scenic) as either the Illawarra Highway or the road through Kangaroo Valley to Nowra and should be a more comfortable trip for your wife.

Regards,

Heather

I assume then that you will be using the M7 - after you leave it and get onto the Hume - just after Campbelltown you will see the turn off for Wollongong - go town the escarpment via Mount Ousley and not Bulli Pass - then down the Princess Highway to Batemans Bay.

Garry's route doesn't compel you to use Bulli Pass. It will take you through Appin, then onto the Princes Hwy at the top of the Escarpment. From there you can make a quick switch to the left for Bulli Pass, or keep right and go down Mt Ousley.

Cheers

Another option is to stay on the Hume and go down via Braidwood and the Clyde Mountain, coming out at Batemans Bay.

According to Whereis there is about 30kms and 7 minutes difference between the two routes, coming from Newcastle.

Whilst the run down the Clyde is hilly and has some corners that will make you slow down, it is mostly good quality road, relatively short and at the end of your journey. This means you can get out of the car at the end and not have to get back in it. The run from Nowra down to Batemans Bay has quite a few winding sections, small hills and many parts without overtaking lanes.

Depends a bit on how you travel - whether you stop regularly, want to check the scenery or just there quickly etc.

You can always try a different way back if you don't enjoy the first route!

He said he wanted to go to Nowra, not Batemans Bay.
