Hi all.
The boss & I are planning a trip to Canberra in the new year. We would like to spend the least amount of time on the black stuff as possible.
Can anyone recommend either an entire route or even some good sections that should not be missed? To make it even more challenging (for you guy's not me) we would like a different route each way.
Travelling by 4wd and off road camper. Looking at max travelling time for Bris-Can 1 week.

All the very best for xmas & the new year.

A section for you.

Between Grafton and Kyogle then Murwillumbah.

There are forestry roads that run along the top of the dividing range that leave Grafton and run up near Baryugil towards Tabulum (Richmond Range I think its called) and then cross over the Casino/Tenterfield Road, and head up to Toonambar Dam near Kyogle. You can then Head into the Nat Park North of Kyogle and head across to Murwillumbah.

Not much of it is real challenging, but the scenary is first rate and its a great drive.

Sorry the directions are ordinary . . . I don't have a map in front of me. You should get the drift of where I'm talking about with a map in front of you.

Not much in the way of dirt but the Warrumbungles near Coonabarabran are worth a look.

As you go south from there have a look at a place called Sofala and Hillend, at least it will get you away from the coast.

There is a good dirt road between Bathurst and Goulburn and a couple of back roads from Goulburn through Gunning to Canberra.

When you are in canberra duck out to the Brindabellas for a look, the remnants of our big fire are still visible. There is a good 1-100,000 National mapping Authority map of the ACT that is worth picking up.

Enjoy.

Wim,
Some to consider - there is some bitumen in all of these.

From Brisbane out along Beaudesert Rd and onto Summerland way to Kyogle. Across to Tenterfield via Bonalbo, some nice country in this area.

Nemingah (near Tamworth) Nundle, Timor, Murrurundi or Scone.

Merriwa, across Goulburn river between Wollar & Bylong, Rylstone.

Kempsey to Gloucester via the "Werrikimbe" National Park - this one is written up in Discover Australia 4wd by Ron & Viv Moon.

Regards

Big ask to think I could stay of the blacktop for too long on this trip but between country roads and some dirt sections should make for a nice trip.
I will add your info to list to check out.

Regards

Wim
