Hi All
Before going to Karijini in October 11, I checked out the forums to see what people said about the place and where to stay.

Well it's a given. The place is Amazing. We spent from Sunday night to Saturday morning in the National Park and that was not to long.

Anyway the purpose of this thread is that it appears from other threads that the ECO retreat was less preferred than Dale's. My opinion for what it is worth is that both sites offer the same Camping sites ie a cleared area Iron gravel lots.
Dale's has drop toilets and you need to be completely self sufficient.
The ECO retreat has Flushing toilets and Solar Showers both of which were clean.
The ECO retreat also has free BBQ's under sunshades which we used extensively.
Add to this Very pleasant staff at Reception which is also a BAR at prices that considering the location are very reasonable.
We had Dinner at the restaurant one night (forgot it was my son' 10th birthday while we were away) and the meals were good at about $35 a main.

It cost $30 a night for the Eco retreat site and Dale's is the normal National Park camping fee I think that is about $15 a couple. I'll be going to Karijini again (and do the Adventure tour with abseiling in the gorges) and stay at the Eco Retreat again.

For the Happy Traveller it is worth noting that TOM PRICE is VERY good for price on Fuel and Supplies. Their Coles had stuff cheaper than our local in Perth. Happy to help with any other questions you may have about visiting the National Park.

Cheers
Dal

Hi Dal,

Yes Karajini is a remarkable place. The choice between the two areas comes down to how much gear you are carrying IMHO. If like us you are fully self sufficient why spend the extra for a solar shower and flushing loos. The drop toilets at Dales were very good when we were there. The Eco Retreat is good for those doing bus tours or having a bit of time out from the mines. Mind you if I remember rightly there were no fires allowed at Dales and it can get pretty busy there.

Cheers,

Val.

When we stayed there a couple of years ago , they allowed the people next to us to run a cheap noisy generator until 8pm.

Not sure what the "Eco" was about.

I have to agree with everyone about Karijini. It was one of the highlights of our trip around the West Coast in 2010. For average caravanners, Dales Gorge camp area has one advantage, the access road in is fully sealed from the Karijini Drive.

As to the generator question, we opted to stay in the generator section of the campground (we had a choice) even though we don't have a generator (why?, thats another story for another day). No problems. There were generators running but none bothered us. Luckily they weren't right next to us and they must have been the better quality quieter ones.

We stayed in Tom Price CP for a couple of nights to do the Hamersley Gorge and other sights on the Eastern side as well as the mine then moved to Dales Gorge for the rest of Karijini.

I saw the Eco retreat from a distance but that's all. $30 seems reasonable out there by comparison to say Port Hedland's $42 per night in an absolutely crappy CP with missing shower heads on showers, missing tap handles in basins.

My advice is don't miss Karijini NP it is an amazing place.

A very Valid Point.
The unsealed roads are a little ordinary.
If you are in a Caravan then Dale's is probably the best place to Camp.
Unhitch your temporary home and go exploring
Altough you won't have to go far, Dale's has walking access to Fortescue Falls, Fern and Circular pool.
