I'm looking at visiting Wyangala Dam. There seems to be 2 seperate areas to go, the Wyangala waters state park and the Grabine state park on different sides of the dam. Has any one been there and which of the parks would you recommend? both seem to have similar facilities

G'dat bks

We were at Grabine a few days ago, came in from Goulburn Rd through Bigga and although we didn't have the van and the road gets narrow in places they say there has never been any problems getting in.

The park has been closed for 8 years due to lack of water and only re-opened during the last 12 months. Plenty of water for fishing and boating but it does get a bit hot down in the valley at times.

We also go to Wyangala and the facilities there are arguably better but there is a better choice of where to camp at Grabine. Neither place has mobile reception although they say Optus mobiles do get some reception in specific areas (reliable but unconfirmed information).

Fiona and Paul

Thanks for that reply.

I had a look on a map and was a bit confused about camping at Grabine it seems like there are two other camping areas outside the main park called Foggs crossing and websters. Are they still part of the Park?

Also we would be looking at going at peak time around New Year, they say they have unlimited unpowered sites but would hate to go that far to find no where to camp.

Yes there are several other spots and Webasters is on the road on the way in to the park, only toilets there but plenty of room to samp by the water. They come around and collect the fees.

Inside the boom gate there are quite a few options, only a few powered sites but plenty of room and it is a generator tolerant place until 10pm. Lots of cabins and old on-site vans but it seems to me that lots have been neglected during the closure of the park.

Toilet & shower facilities are quite OK and certainly better than on the other side of Wyangala, the water level was at 18% and not many people so I guess park management didn't do much work either.

They reckon there will be around 3,000 people there because it is a good place, even so there should still be plenty of room and we didn't see Foggs Crossing either. I do have some pics but I haven't downloaded them as yet, send me your email and I'll send a few down that way you can make an informed decision.
