Hi Bruce, my husband and I are also planning on going to the cape next year, around May sometime. We have found the most comfortable sleeping option is 2 single
camp stretchers with a double blow up mattress on top. Regards Mandy

Hi Bruce,
Swags are the go.
The egg carton shaped high density foam mattress in a good quality swag provides excellent comfort. In the tent, you don't need to erect the swags, just roll them out.
We include an opened out sleeping bag to use as a doona should it become cold at night.
You won't regret investing in a couple of good swags.
They can be placed in a roof basket mounted on racks and the Oztent will lay alongside the basket and can be secured to it.
That's the way we do it when not taking our camper.

Hi Bruce.
I have just finished travelling around OZ for 18 mths with an OZ Tent.I used a 4WD self inflating mattress (100 mm thick) straight on the floor and found it really comfortable. Didn't bother rolling it up each morning, just folded it in thirds and it sat on top of other gear in the back of the ute.
Regards Peter

That's what we use. 2 singles with a queen fitted sheet holding them together in our RV4, rolled and stashed on the roof rack during the day.

Yes same here, we tried those thinner more hiking style self inflatables (because the double 4wd matt is so damn big!) but for comfort we're going back to the 4wd mat. (our tent is a single pole touring tent, outdoor connection brand).
If you go the 4wd mat I would recommend buying two singles, just easier to roll up should you want to and more storage options.
But certainly if you want the comfort of a foam matress then a swag is a good way to go, in particular because your bedding and mattress can be kept all together and protected from dust and stuff. Not sure if the bedding gets wet when the swag canvas gets wet though!
