A week ago I installed Icom 400 Pro UHF into 80 series, if anyone can help me solve a some issues that would be great, as the instruction manual is confusing in my opinion.
(1) When you turn the uhf on a loud high tone comes from the speaker. This happens I turn the unit on everytime. Very annoying. Is this normal?
(2) I have the uhf on channel 40 when I start the scan (open) the channel jumps from 40 to 48 ?
(3) Not sure if I have the squelch adjusted correctly. Adjustment goes from 0-250 I have it set on 60 the instructions seem to be wrong way around.
I would appreciate any feed back, I have read the forums on EO and non of these issues have come up.
Many thanks in advance.

I may be able to help with the tone, if you unclip the mike lead from the unit and look into the hole you will see the head of a small screw, that screw will adjust the tone, I have done this on
mine and it works, I think I have my squelch about 120 but not to sure, hope this helps,
Pete

I agree re the manual - it assumes far too much prior familiarity with advanced radio programming - clods like me are left head scratching for hours (days sometimes). I think the 400 Pro is actually designed 'primarily' for commercial users (it can run at 25W, not our 5W) and would commonly be programmed in multiples by an expert - they would then just dump the program onto the units via a PC - I guess many organisations would use them every day and never tweak anything .
1. Yes re the loud start up beep - I have not seen an 'off' for that anywhere in the menus. (I think it is the same loud beep that heralds a timed shut down if you accidentally leave the radio on - a very handy programmable feature). 2. Can't say -
mine is still programmed for 40 CH - might pay for an update at some stage, but for now I have 80 ch hand-helds). 3. Suggest you experiment -
mine was on 125 but have changed that a few times up and down - the lower the number, the easier it is for a channel to open - if there is habitually hash only on 'opens', raise the number. In my view, this setting can only be arrived at after monitoring transmissions in the field over a good period of time.
Oh... and...re AF Min - handy it seems - will be adjusting
mine up from 0 soon - info at hand says this sets the lowest speaker volume setting, regardless of volume knob position - meaning that if a 'certain person' brushes against the volume setting and turns it to zero, we will still hear anything coming in.
