Hi Vivvie
No answers - can't be many horse mounted adventurers these days.
Will you have a support vehicle? Are you taking
camping gear or relying on other accommodation? Have far do you expect to travel in a day?
Check out Showgrounds and contact them. Some allow
camping and most have facilities for housing horses. In between, phone Shire offices and Visitor Centres and ask.

Hi Vivvie D40, If their are any Inn's, not hotels on the way they are required by law to feed and
water your horse. It part of their licence to look after the traveller's horse at night if you stay their.

MALPT, Look at the front door and their is a
sign saying who is the Licensee is and it also says it's either a hotel, hotel-motel, lounge bar or Inn. It is required by law to be in a place where you can see it before you enter. Every hotel, hotel-motel, lounge bar and Inn has one.

You could be better off floating the horses to the east side of
Melbourne (less freeways) and head up through
Walhalla, to the start of the National Horse Trail.
You can follow the trail through to Wonagatta don't try the
Crosscut Saw.
Rode through some of that area and its a great part of the country.
