Hi all and a merry christmas,

We are hoping to do a trip from Broome back to Sydney via the Gibb River/Savannah Way in June/July/Aug next year.

As we are limited with time (we have 9 weeks) and will have our 11 month old with us we figured a good option would be to do the trip one way. Having said this, it is proving difficult to work out how to get the car and camper trailer to Broome without us and without paying a whole lot of money.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Britt

Find someone who wants to drive to Broome and fly home. Everyone is a winner.

cheers,

Two lots of friends of ours wanted to do exactly that on two separate occasions and both ended up with the bloke doing a quick drive one way and the rest of the family flew over and met them in Broome.
The biggest problem is that they were unable to find a car carrier that would take the vehicle and camper with gear in it, they all had to be empty, the carriers would not allow any contents.
The other way to do it is to find a retired couple (friends, family, fellow 4wd club members etc) who would like to take a trip of several weeks or more across to Broome and then fly home, you fly in and take over the vehicle.

I could not find a carrier to do it & as most carriers leave the car unlocked so you can't leave any thing in it.
so my son & I drove straight there (Broome) from Jervis Bay NSW in 4 days left Thursday night after work & flew out of Broome Monday left the car with friends flew back with the whole family a few weeks later did our trip Broome to Darwin with the family & left the wife & daughter at Darwin air port Friday & drove back arriving Sunday night

I would like to point out when we do this, we are use to doing long distance drives & we were in bed each night by midnight & left by 7am we shared the drive & the vehicle is a large comfortable 4wd, We did this last year as well on our cape york trip, my son & I drove to cairns in 2 days picked up the girls at the airport did the trip dropped them off on the way back & then did the hard yards again. you know how long a trip is by how many talking books you can go thru

We have friends [ family of five ] from Melbourne who did the same last year , they only had 7 weeks . They got a friend to drive their gear to Broome with fuel paid , they then flew to Broome and met their friend swapped over and the friend flew home at their expense . All were happy

I have recently transported 2 cars and C/T 8,500km with a combination of transport companies. It is horrendously expensive and there are a few added complications for North West W.A.
Find an alternative if you can - if you need any more information - message me.

Good Luck

for one thing you are likely to find it easier to get it OUT of Broome than into as a backload-but that depends on seasons due to veges/fruit coming down from Kununara.
Also youd be very unlikely to get Sydney Broome in one hit unless its a special order.

Friend did that and had to have the car resprayed, hot brake dust all over it put little lumps all over it as it was outside on a flatcar.
You still cannot have any contents.

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for all your advice and offers of possibly driving our rig across. Over the xmas break a family member offered to take the car and trailer across which is great. Now we just have to buy the camper, looking at trackabouts but not easy locating a second hand one that's not too old. We also want a smallish (9ft) tent which may limit our choice of trailers.

Hope everyone had a great new years.

Britt
