We are planning a trip in june. Does anybody know of interesting
places to see or recoommended
places to stay. We are towing a 21ft jayco poptop behind our 2005 diesel nissan patrol. What are the road conditions like? Does anybody know the price of diesel out there?

Hi Robyn and
John,
We travelled through inland parts of Qld last winter and have written a series of
blogs about where we went and what we saw. One of the
blogs is
here and you can navigate from there to see the rest of them. There are some wonderful
places and
great camp spots out there, just
check on road conditions closer to your departure time, especially if it is wet over the next couple of months.
Cheers,
Val

There is still lots of road works repairing flood damaged roads on the
Warrego highway. Be prepared to stop numerous times for up to 15-20mins between
Oakey and
Mitchell.
Cheers Kev

G'day Robin &
John
The Landsborough is "The Matilda Highway".
They have done a fair bit of promoting it as a tourist route. I had a tourist magazine that gave a step by step guide to the Matilda Highway. It was pretty good & gave a description of points of interest all along the route. There were markers at the points as
well
You could start looking here

Good luck with it

You might have to copy & paste that address to get it to work.
That's if you want to look at it.

Travelled the route many many times over the years, most towns have something of interest but the best towns are
Ilfracombe,
Longreach,
Winton and
Cloncurry.

I suppose it really depends on how much spare time you have. Friend sof ours have a property camping setup north of
Mitchell. Go to
Places in the top search line on this
forum, search Claravale Wilderness Experience. You'll find it there
Best of Luck

If you are after a good
free camp, there is a weir just west of
Mitchell , and another beauty just south of barcauldine.
Kynuna has a great pub, as does
Ilfracombe. There are interesting
places all the way, just depends what you re in to, the tree of knowledge,
combo waterhole, dinosaurs etc. The price of diesel isn t that much different to brissy until you re further west than
Blackall.

For your last leg
Winton to Mt Isa, go via
Boulia. I found this stretch of outback fascinating and it really left a lasting impression on my first western trip years ago. We did it again last year and I still feel the same. The
Middleton pub is an interesting whistle stop as
well.
Good luck
