Don't
camp too close to the water at
Island Bend as the
Snowy River rises and falls between the dams in this spot without warning, unless you
check with Snowy Hydro before hand. I was caught out here while hiking down the
Snowy River once and pulled my tent down in record time as the river rose about 1.5m in just minutes.
I'd go with Spencers Creek but don't go to the
toilet or wash near the water. You probably don't need reminding but alpine habitat is very sensitive.
Don't trust the water up there either, giardia has been found in streams and springs from
the summit down, thanks to inconsiderate visitors. Boil it or use iodine tabs, no matter how clean or fresh it looks.
Have a great hike and enjoy the
wildflowers
