Hi
A simple question, can anyone recommend a simple
overnight camp site in the vicinity of
Charlotte Pass in
Kosciuszko National Park? Just need to an overnight spot to begin a hike the following morning.
Thanks
Peter

Hi beautiful bush or site (with
toilets)
camping at
Island Bend, I am sure it is the closest
camp ground to CP. I was there last week. It is about 20 mins drive from CP.

Don't
camp too close to the
water at
Island Bend as the
Snowy River rises and falls between the dams in this spot without warning, unless you check with Snowy Hydro before hand. I was caught out here while hiking down the
Snowy River once and pulled my tent down in record time as the river rose about 1.5m in just minutes.
I'd go with Spencers
Creek but don't go to the
toilet or wash near the
water. You probably don't need reminding but alpine habitat is very sensitive.
Don't trust the
water up there either, giardia has been found in streams and springs from
the summit down, thanks to inconsiderate visitors. Boil it or use iodine tabs, no matter how clean or fresh it looks.
Have a great hike and enjoy the
wildflowers

There is a
camp spot at Spencers
Creek (no facilities) a couple of k from the start of the walks.
