We are planning our first big trip from
Bribie Island QLD with destinations
Melbourne,
Canberra &
Sydney. In what best order we visit dont know? but do want to travel back via
New England through
Tamworth, Armidale and Glen Innes. Any suggestioons from seasoned travellers would be so appreciated.

Go South through
Sydney and
Canberra then via
Cooma,
Bombala, Cann River to
Melbourne, Return By the Newell Highway through Tocumwal,
Jerilderie, Narrandera, Forbes (The Centre of the Universe) Parkes (
Well they do have the Radio Telescope) Coonabarabran (The Warrumbungles) and north to QLD.

To do
Tamworth you can hook off the Newell and across to the
New England, then go North.

Hi Peter and Robyn,
You don't mention when you plan to do your trip or how long you plan to be away - both these things could have a bearing on which way you travel. Or whether you are towing anything?
If you want to just stick to the major roads then use the route suggested. If you want to get away from the highways, but still stay on bitumen you could go south along the coast from
Sydney to
Batemans Bay and then go up the Clyde Mtn to
Canberra.
Or you could go along the coast all the way to
Melbourne and come back up the Hume to
Canberra, or cut across on the Snowy Mtns Highway (some winding sections but very scenic).
Just make sure you have a good road atlas/map and you will find a lot of options as to which way to go.

We have 5 weeks to play around with in June and will be towing a 16 foot van. Have taken your advice and have loaded up with good road maps. It seems we have many options.

June long weekend is considered the start of the ski season. Whilst there are no guarantees, you do run the risk of getting caught by snow and cold weather if you go via the snowies at that time of year.
If that sounds exciting to you, go to the snowies later on in your trip to improve the chances of snow. If that sounds horrible, make your plans accordingly and aim to spend more time on the coast for the later parts of the trip.

Hi Peter and Robyn,
Travelling in June, make sure you have a heater as
Canberra and
New England will be cold. Traffic south from
Canberra going to the snow could be heavy too.
