We were camping in the Coorong over the Xmas break. I ended up getting my Prado stuck belly deep in sand. A couple of gents stopped to assist, one had a set of Maxtraxx.

After I dug the car our with a tri-fold (couldn't recommend it more!), hook up the snatch and ran out over the MaxTraxx, the one under the back tyre literally disappeared!. There were three of us digging in the sand for around an hour and couldn't find the thing. The car must have just buried it right down somewhere.

Anyway, now I need to replace the guys MaxTraxx. I'd rather not fork out the $300 for a brand new set so wondering if anyone may be able to assist in where I could pick up a good 2nd hand one??

Appreciate the help!!!

Matt

Matt,

a wanted add in the EO "classifieds" would be a good start I'd reckon.

bit late now,i know but when i purchased mine they said to always have a rope attached to the maxtrax for that very reason.
i didn't think it was necessary until reading of your bad luck.
good luck with your search regs. phil

I had previously read of someone burying their MaxTrax on Fraser Island, never to be found again.

I immediately tied about 4 metres of colourful rope on to each MaxTrax. I recommend the same for all.

As Rod D said: Then tie it to the tow bar and it will pull out as you go. you can then stop when on firm sand and retrieve them. Or put your shovel where they are placed so you know where to dig

hi
im amused at the fact that you are trying to sqimp on the replacement cost of replacing the very helpfull guys maxtraxx
what cost would it have been to you if he hadn't come along with them when you were so badly bogged
its a good idea to carry 1.5mtrs of 12mm rod it can be used to push or drive into sand/mud to locate the buried mats or what ever and can be used for many other aplications at any time ,,.yes ! something else to carry ?? the rope idea is also sound logic
cheers

I also have to agree with you. The guy has helped you out. Fix him up and then go buy your own set. And tie them to your car with a rope, as has been suggested. Sheesh!!!!

Agreed, cheap bast^&d.

mattyb1978, can you please post a pic and details of your vehicle so I know to pass you by next time you are stuck.

What a god damm nerve. Fix up the guy and ASAP. You should replace his maxtracks and throw in an extra case of beer to boot and thank him again.

I'll bet the tide was lapping your vehicle at the time too!

One more vote for cheap bastard.

I too want a photo of the bogged Prado with the rego number clearly visible.

Karma always re-visits cheap bastards.

Hi Mattyb, There are Chinese ones available but will the guy who helped you out accept that? Just think, heavy salvage.....tow truck down to the beach!! My advice seeing you asked...buy him a brand new set & he can keep the spare one for just that.....a spare. Mate, you are probably thousands of $$$ in front.....your lucky he stopped & helped.

I actually thought it an excellent idea asking around for one. Numerous people on here have said they have broken Maxtrax in the past so it only makes sense there will be a few single ones lying about.
After Matts experience I couldn't see him buying a set for himself anyway.
Cheers Craig.............
PS: Next time Matt get a long handle post hole shovel, don't be afraid to let the tyres down to 8 psi, stick a pair of heavy floor mats under the wheels (or some brush) & don't worry about the bright orange bits of plastic ;-)

Excellent idea Matt, you are obviously doing the right thing by replacing the Max Trax, if you can get it a bit cheaper good luck to you.

Everyone gets stuck at some stage, even the self righteous few on this forum.

I would be fully cheesed off if I lost one helping some out and they gave me a cheap imitation or a used set. As said you got off cheaply even at $300 a set.

New for new.
