I am planning a trip to the Diamantina in June/July this year. Two vehicles towing camper trailers. We thought to go up via Windorah then north through the park and out to Winton.

Anybody been up that way lately? What effect do you think all the wet weather up that way will have on that area by then?

Any information would be gratefully received.

Cheers

We went into Diamantina from the south last winter. We have written some blogs about it, you can see them via this link here. The previous blog describes the track in.

The road up to the park follows the Diamantina River across vast black soil plains so I imagine it would currently be impassable. Come next winter it should be OK but close to when you travel, if there has been any rain you would need to check with the rangers before trying to go in.

Cheers,

We went there in winter 2010, in the direction you are considering. Roads were
excellent. The water at the billabong where we camped was surrounded by 30' of
knee deep mud ,which made fishing difficult. The roads & mud are seasonal of course,
& no one can say what conditions will be like in July. No doubt closed at the moment.
You will need to moniter the appropriate sites as time passes.
Dont forget to stay at the Middleton Pub & chat with Lester Cain..a living legend of
that part of QLD........oldbaz.

Hi Oldbaz,
I'll second that a stay at the Middleton Pub camping grounds and a chat, beer and counter meal with Lester is a must when passing that way.

Cheers

Mailman coming down from Winton on Friday (10/02/12). Boys just been up to Springvale (road to Boulia). I just got back from trip to Longreach (via Windorah) and grader working down at Palparara. No problems at the moment. Can't garuntee your time but give me a call. I'm at Davenport Downs 46573077. Ask for Dave.
I'm the good looking gardener.
