Hi All,
Under 5 weeks until we leave for our big trip around Australia. The gremlins seem to have gone and our preparations are going
well. We bought a car that had a 40 channel UHF fitted and I was just wondering if someone could set me straight about the channels for public use, the channels to avoid and the channels the truckies use as they often have some useful information about roads?
Have a great week all!

Wow that was quick TJ! Just had time to make a cuppa! So does that mean we can use any simplex channel?

Carreen.
here is a link for you.
UHF channel info
Yes! you may find some good information on the highway on 40 and 29. Just be aware swearing will be part of that. Also as you near larger towns you get the usual morons on the uhf.
Have a good trip.

Thanks RA! I have added it to my favourites list. We can't wait to go, it is coming up quickly and I am ready to pack and move out of the house as we are renting but we are both still working full time until a day before we go. Kinda too soon to pack everything up but itching to do so.
Thanks, Carreen

Hi Carreen
Stay on channel 40 or what ever channel is specified for that particular road. We have a large 40 on the front and rear of our caravan. I have this weekend made an easily printable .pdf document of the 80 channels (two sides of an A4 sheet - 40 channels on each).

Hi Carreen,
Some very good information has been given above to which I would add one small item. If you have any passengers of a
young or sensitive disposition, I would suggest not using the Truckers' channel anywhere near big cities. In those areas quite a number of users have a very bad case of potty mouth.
Have a great trip!
Cheers,
Chris.

Well put Chris, as a general rule I usually turn the volume right down when near a town. It would appear the principle of inverse proportion applies i.e. the lower the IQ the greater the number of obscenities that punctuate the vocabulary.
Cheers
