Use Google Maps or Whereis map. You can change the route as you wish and compare.

If you have a higher clearance vehicle, prepared to put up with
granite gravel roads,
Tamworth to
Bendemeer,
Bendemeer to Kinstown (watch the curves just out of
Bendemeer and be alert on the dirt), Kingstown to
Bundarra (watch for the left hand turn about 10km out of Kinstown, I often sail past it),
Bundarra to Inverell, 2hours all up if no mucking around
IF you want all bitumen,
Tamworth to
Uralla, turn left to
Bundarra, then onto Inverell, say 10-20 minutes longer
Haven't been on it for 6 months, though I was near there last weekend on dirt roads NE of Barraba and noticed after the heavy rain in early Feb., there were some washed away sections, which may have affected the road between
Bendemeer and Kingstown

Tamworth to
Uralla, turn left and head to
Bundarra then to Inverell, distance of about 240 ks.
Travelled this way with van last year and took us a bit over three hours from memory.
Cheers

I was born in Inverell.
We always travelled Barraba,
Bingara and cut across to Delungra then in to Inverell. That way you missed the dreaded
Moonbi Hills on the
New England Hwy.
According to Google it is 8mins longer, but we thought it was the better route.

Phil, if you aren't towing a van, 30 minutes longer.
Even if you were, the trip via
Uralla is still quicker than through Barraba/
Bingara

Sorry, but I've got to ask...... what's SWMBO an abbreviation for??
It's not on the list and it's just making my brain go cloudy trying to figure it out.

Mark from
Ballina here, ex Glen Innes...we always travelled back road ( not the NE Hwy), ..
Manilla, Baraba,
Bingara, Delungra, Inverell.... 1 small range rather than the Moonbis, no drag thru Armidale all good road, hardly any traffic.

Agree with Marksom.
We live in GI and often travel this way to visit friends in Tam.
Less traffic (ie heavy transport) and the
New England hwy. is presently not too flash.
If you are in a hurry the stop starts at the moment will drive you round the twist. Can be a longish wait top of Moombi, they are removing a large
rock section.
At least the road gangs are on it.
