Thinking of going to alpine region over easter (entering from tom groggin if roads are open) ,would like to camp and try to fish some of the local streams for the elusive trout.
Can anyone share their knowledge of some possible fishing spots in the area ?

Hi Pepper2,

I have been eyeing off the Geehi Camping Ground which has lots of space as well as a trout stream (limit of 2 per day). I have not been there but it looks fantastic from the google searches I have done. Also has the advantage of a 4wd track nearby.

Hi Pepper2,

Depends on how much time you want to spend chasing Trout. I don't know where you live but for me in Sydney I would take a good 1/2 day to get to Geehi then set up camp and fish the afternoon rise on the Friday. Saturday morning rise early to fish first light, go for a local explore of the area (4wd) and then fish the evening rise again followed by baked trout (hopefully) and a few glasses of wine. Depending on how this goes, I would do the same on the Sunday but perhaps try a different part of the river (further west near Old Geehi Camping area). Monday would be a morning fish and then pack up to head home.

Your trip would have you moving each day but provided you are able to fish first and last light it would work. Mine is a bit (lot) more relaxed.

Have a great trip and let me know how you go. Perhaps I'll see you at Geehi.

Regards,

Tom Groggin crossing is running at about 3 metres at the moment, There could be a bit of damage to the tracks. best you contact the parks people to find out. My guess is the crossing and Davis plain will be closed. Eric
