Comment: UHF Radio

Not many 40 channel radios can be upgraded to 80
The icom ic400 pro can.
They will charge around $50 to do the upgrade

Aussie Camper,

Although this post is in the wrong place your statement is misleading, many recent (last 2 years) units can be upgraded.

For example: GME upgradable UHF units. Only 3 out of 11 recent products need to go back to the dealer, the rest can be done by the end user.

I have no affiliation with GME or any other UHF supplier.

I'm not sure why you say it's misleading.

I know some models of GME and icom can be upgraded, not sure what other brands can

If your model can be upgraded, you get the authorized dealer to upgrade it to get
The extra channels. I went to one dealer and he said $50 to upgrade it.
Some people might not be comfortable to do it them selves.

Some you can buy the cable that can its big dollars or you can get a made up one from ebay
For $20 or so.

Like the icom radio I mentioned , all you do is plug the cable in where the mic goes and with the right software you can upgrade it and it can take a minute to two.

Aussie Camper, You apparently don't know what you are talking about or pushing a particular brand. I have a GME and it is a simple procedure to change from a 40 to an 80 channel. You simply go to their web site and follow the prompts. Quite simple.

These new GME are so much more easy to upgrade to 80 channels
I didn't realize the new ones are so much easier to upgrade.
With the Icom you need cables and software to upgrade to the 80 channels.
