No doubt a sound business based decision on their part. While this will most likely make it harder to get a place in peak season, they have the right to choose what is best for their business. The park we stayed at in 2009 disappeared the following year. It was a small but busy park in a very convenient location.

Is it necessary to book caravan parks sites in Darwin during June?

Yes you should book ahead if you are going to stay in Darwin in June. Try Hidden Valley or Shady Glen they are both closer to town, if you want somewhere a bit further out try The Lakes Resort.

Darwin is overflowing from late June onwards. Everyone wants to get away from the cold. We're driving from Perth to Darwin late June to mid-July, and virtually all the accommodation in Darwin - no matter what type - is nearly all fully booked.
In 2008, we made a mistake of not fully booking well ahead, and took a 10-day campervan trip around Kakadu, and down to Pine Ck and thence back to Darwin. When we got back, in late July, we very nearly had to resort to sleeping in the car, as every form of accommodation was overflowing.
We might have had a GFC, and there might be a real slowdown in the manufacturing areas of Australia - but in Darwin, nothing ever changes. You make sure you have your accommodation booked well ahead in the Winter months.

If I ever become a van manufacturer (extremely unlikely by the way) I am going to use Caravavan as the brand name. Its excellent.
