Darwin is overflowing from late June onwards. Everyone wants to get away from the cold. We're driving from
Perth to
Darwin late June to mid-July, and virtually all the accommodation in
Darwin - no matter what type - is nearly all fully booked.
In 2008, we made a mistake of not fully booking
well ahead, and took a 10-day campervan trip around
Kakadu, and down to Pine Ck and thence back to
Darwin. When we got back, in late July, we very nearly had to resort to sleeping in the car, as every form of accommodation was overflowing.
We might have had a GFC, and there might be a real slowdown in the manufacturing areas of Australia - but in
Darwin, nothing ever changes. You make sure you have your accommodation booked
well ahead in the Winter months.
