Well its been an interesting journey. Just when it seemed all sorted(posted on 22 may and had great responses here) it appears we can't jump through the hoops required by the freight companies. So, the bikes are still languishing in Port Augusta jail. Leave them another month and problem solved, they'll likely get the heave ho and be sent to unclaimed goods in Adelaide.
Meanwhile this is a second' last ditch effort' to see if anyone is coming through Port Augusta sometime in next month and returning to near Melbourne where we live and interested in being paid up to $250 (if delivered home or thereabouts in event we have to pick up up to an hours drive away).
Corrrugate75 -are you still out there and interested? If so maybe you can respond to this thread? We could pick up from Balllarat as you offered when I last posted so long as it's a flexible time.
Our membership has expiired so I can't PM alas. Anyhow here's hoping, again.

John, thanks for your offer. Where in SE Melb by the way are you? The 2 bikes and bike rack take a bit of room-we are not sure why they literally dropped off our caravan tow bar so until that is clarified by close examination of the bike rack it would not be advisable to put on the tow bar-cos that's what we did-and lost them! And didn't find out about it til we got to Woomera and we heard from the police station! They were found by the side of the road outside Port Augusta.
At this stage I will wait before accepting any kind offers-in case Corrugate gets back to the forum.
Thanks-and will be in touch.

olcoolone, thanks for your kind offer but not sure how we would get the bikes to Adelaide and have no plans in the next 6-12 months to visit Adelaide. But thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

You made a comment that in another month your problem will be solved as the bike will get shipped to Adelaide..... but if your not coming through Adelaide for at least 6-12 months how is your problem solved?

Not every one who travels through Pt Augusta continues on the lovely down town Melbourne....... but there a a lot of people who travel through Adelaide and continue on the Melbourne + the bike are 400Km's closure and in safer hands.

Good luck......

Good point. What I meant was that the police will take them to whereever 'lost' items go to be auctioned off-so tongue in cheek when I said 'problem solved. As we have been in touch a number of times with the police at Port Augusta, it is likely that they would keep them for longer if we have a solution.
Look I'm still trying to sort a solution from the many suggestions made-including your own. If I can get them to Adelaide, I can possibly take up your kind offer. Work in progress...

If you don't collect them with in a set time they will auction them off, however nice the police are they are not a storage facility...... unless your a HOON bike rider!

Give me a call during business hours on 08 8260 6090 and I will see what I can do.

We have people coming through Pt Augusta all the time, load space permitting.

Nicki, did you try an ad in Gumtree? Or did you look for an empty furniture truck going Adelaide-Melbourne?
The bloke in the link below appears to be going Adelaide-Melbourne-Sydney mid-June, and could be your best bet.

Ron, thanks for your reply. We have put an ad in Gumtree-but they moved it to the transport section from the community section. And we had no responses at all. If no luck with a more direct drop off to Melbourne area we will follow up the leads for a transport truck. Have already done so-but awkward pick up for a transport firm. I tried a back fill firm and they didn't get back to me.
cheers, nicki

Hi nicki

Have you had a look at www.meemeep.com?

They seem to be set up to attract a wide range of travellers to this type of job.

Thanks George-M. I'll follow this up and see if it will work. Haven't heard from corrugate 75 so maybe this may be the best chance.

G'day,
I haven't been on this forum for a while but here I am!
Plan is to be through Pt Augusta Sunday night, into Ballarat Thursday.
In a dual cab ute (not a huge tray) so should have room.
Let me know if that helps.
Cheers

Hi corrugate-can't believe this-got your post-tonight after being unable to get any internet connection for 4 days-despite attempts-out of range. So missed your offer. Thanks anyway. Would have turned out really well cos have friend in Ballarat I will visit later in the month. Cheers-and thanks for making the effort.
