Hello,
My family and I are currently touring the east coast (QLD and NSW) but we would like a little Outback experience. We would probably want to head west from the south
Gold Coast. We don't have a 4WD so we'd be limited to reasonable roads. We could
camp but would prefer non-camping accommodation.
Any suggestions for a 5-6 day tour that would give us a taste of the outback?
Thanks so much!

Check out
Roma,
Charleville,
Longreach,
Winton areas. If you have the time you could head there via
Toowoomba and return to the coast via
Richmond,
Hughenden etc or
Emerald to Rockhamton.

Accommodation is limited in some of these towns as the mining companies have taken over all available accommodation

Are you planning on heading north or south from the
Gold Coast area?

Ha ha I got that bit but I assumed perhaps wrongly that they wanted to head west and travel inland for 5 or 6 days so wanted to know if they were heading up or down the coast but perhaps they meant to double back to the coast at the same place they left it???

You could head south down to
Bourke and on to
Nyngan then head
Sydney way.

If you add the time you intended to travel to
Sydney from the
Gold Coast you will get a few more days as
well. Head down to
Ballina and turn up the Bruxner Highway. Head out to
Walgett (don't forget to stay at least a night in the Gwydir CP for the hot pools.)
Depending on your timing, head to
Sydney from
Walgett or go out to
Bourke and then down the
Kidman Way.
