Hi everyone,
I recently bought a 1999 2.7L petrol Hilux and have had exceptionally bad fuel economy, approximately 300km to 50 litres. This is only in normal driving conditions and is obviously worse when I do a lot of off road driving. I have returned it twice to toyota to investigate and have been told that all is okay. I've even contacted the toyota web site to ask for the specs of that engine only to be told they don't have them. If anyone has any idea what is wrong or if you can confirm that its just a bad model could you let me know.
Cheers

I hired a van which had a 2.7litre petrol in it... I am sure it was a 2.7.... Well anyway, i thought it had a hole in the petrol tank.... 60litres gone in 350kms.... From Adelaide to Sydney and down the coast all the way back to Adelaide again it was the same the whole way....___________________________________

thats over 16l/100klm

i have a 2000 xcab lux 2.7petrol

around town i normally avge (2 hours of stop start traffic every weekday) 14l/100klm

on the highway around 10-11l/100klm

then again i generally change around 3grand AND i very rarely have any load on board AND i dont run oversize tyres.

oh yeah... other important thing to note... i ALWAYS run PULP.... without it i have to rev the ring out of it to stop it bogging down below 2 grand. i dont have figures on std ULP as i only ran 1 tank of it and couldnt bear it - the lux is gutless at the best of times, may as well give it some decent fuel.

i suggest you try a few tanks of PULP and compare milage... i'd be interested to know the difference.

cheers,

KG
