Pooncarrie

What is the road to Pooncarrie like at this time of the year? I know it is sealed but what quality.
Where do others stay while in or around Pooncarrie?

Thank you.

Road from Wentworth to Pooncarie as you say is sealed, and when we travelled it two years ago was excellent, so can't see why it would be any different now.
Pooncarie to the Lakes was a different story.
Cheers

Hi gt, pooncarie is a lovely little town. As baz said the road from wentworth is sealed and just a good country road. Just after sunrise and just before sunset there can be a lot of wildlife on the road. There is a camping area at the sportsground right on the darling river, you go to the pub, see trev or his staff and pay 10 bucks a night for a key for one of the six powered sites. there is showers and toilets there, picnic tables and wood fire barbys on the river bank. dont camp under the gumtrees in this country, they can drop massive branches. There is a free camping area just south of the town but i think you will find it still under water. up Untill a couple of months ago the store was still shut and so the only supplies available was grog and pub meals that are the best in the country. One of my favorite destinations. cheers mm

Hi gt, u may be able to but i have never seen all the sites taken. Give the pub a ring and ask. While the road from pooncarrie to menindie is shut there wont be a lot of travellors out that way. There is a cafe down by the river and the bloke who runs it is full of info on the area and a real talker. Take fishing gear and yabby nets, cheers mark

Somewhere after the turnoff to Mungo on the way to Menindee the road is closed.
We have been told by NSW parks to go through Mungo and come out on the top road and carry on to Menindee that way.
The road is washed away and had not been rebuilt yet.
