Andrew,
Hasn't been enough rain to close the Matilda H'way, but quite a few of dirt/gravel roads have been closed. Plenty of dirty vehicles around
Winton lately, no doubt from travel on dirt, or on detours/side tracks.
Should be right in 10 days, but even then be careful if you pull off the bitumen, for whatever reason, the shoulders will be still damp, and maybe wet in low lying spots. Take extra care if on any single lane bitumen, as you'll have to drop a wheel off to pass anyone, or right off if it's a road train.
Weather in Mackay should be magic at the moment too, though lots of unseasonal rain there this week,
Safe trip,
Bob.

We are in Townsville for our second week...
We couln't move North on Tuesday morning as the Bruce Hwy was close in two
places North of Townsville due to flooding...
Townsville rcd 90mm rain in just over 12 hours Monday night/Tuesday morning...
The wettest July day for 60 years...
The weather forecast says showers and more showers until at least this weekend.
That's why we stayed put...
Cairns and Mackay are forecast rain tomorrow.
Townsville showers...
And I see
Newcastle Sydney and
Wollongong are copping it too...
Andrew - we came up the Matilda slowly starting 19 June and branching east at
Cloncurry a week and a half ago... The usual bumpy, pitted, undulating flood-damaged roads all the way up... lots of roadworks - some with delays...
I imagine there'd be water in the Channel Country - but haven't heard...
Take care...
