Hello, long time reader and member. I think i have read all the articles on tyres on this
forum (thanks to all those who made them). However, i was specifically looking for information on the above tyres and found very little so i thought what better way to than fit a set and chronicle the experience over the next 3 months of
treks around NSW, SA and QLD.
Five new Continental Grabber AT 285 R18 60 tyres fitted to a 2011 Toyota Landcruiser Sahara TD that will spend the next 3 months traveling across NSW, SA, QLD and Vic.
Why did i fit these ? Firstly, i wanted to keep the standard landcruiser rims that came with the car. Secondly, these were the nearest tyre to the "legendary" BFG AT. and finally in the absence of a specific Aussie review i decided to attempt to provide it.
I will provide unbiased updates during my travels - warts and all.
If anyone has any specific questions i will try to answer them in the hope that this thread proves useful for others with the 18" rims.
Cheers
Ric

Don't you mean General Grabber AT tyres made by the General Tire Company in the US? If they are a Continental tyre can you put up a link to them.
If you mean General Grabber AT then they are a great tyre for the price.

Re : "BLOCKED THREAD"
PJR, I don't know what is wrong with your AVG, I only pasted the URL. Try this one, go to Generaltire.com.au and click on the right "OUR COMPANY".

Nothing wrong with my AVG mate. I have set my security level at a high level.
I was just curious. I wanted to see what the side wall ply was. 60 profile is quite low for a lot of offroad stuff so the tyre would need plenty of sidewall protection when pressures are lowered. For the
Cordillo Downs Road, the CSR and like
places.
I do not really need to go there. Thanks anyway.

Thanks Ric. If it's not rude to ask - how much each were they? Will be looking for new boots myself in about 3-6 months.
Had not heard of them or seen them advertised until your post. They get a pretty decent response from US users on Tirerack.com
A large number of
Tire Rack reviews here.

Hi Bazooka,
no issue at all sharing the info.
I rang 3 dealers and the best price was 395.00ea incl fitting, balancing and wheel alignment here in
Melbourne
I have read the reviews on the links you gave and your right plenty of info in the US and not much here which i why i thought i would provide an "amateur review" :)
Cheers

That seems a bit high - 255/60 R18 sell for about $275 fitted so $395 for the larger tyre seems a bit high.
These guys give good prices for General Grabbers to members on the Landrover
Forum so you might want to
check them for pricing.

Gday
Get a price on some Kumho tyres. I purchased 285/75/16 for less than $250.00 each.
They are cheaper from Tyre Power and are a good tyre.
