Dingo Attacks Tourist on Fraser Island

A GERMAN tourist has been attacked by a dingo on Fraser Island and airlifted to hospital.

The 23-year-old was with a group staying at the K'Gari Education Centre, north of Happy Valley, but had wandered away from the main camping ground when the attack occurred.

He suffered serious bite and puncture wounds to the legs, arms and head and was treated at the scene by the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter intensive care paramedic before being flown to Hervey Bay hospital in a stable condition.

Ross Belcher, from the Department of National Parks, said the attack occurred after the man became disoriented and fell asleep on a track.

"This incident serves as an ongoing reminder that dingoes are wild animals and need to be treated as such,'' said Mr Belcher in a statement.

"The way to avoid such incidents is for all people to follow the department's dingo safety messages.''

Mr Belcher said rangers had increased their patrols in response to the incident.

Gazz,

You shouldn't joke about it. I read about the dangers of alcohol and gave up reading!

While the Dingo might have survived the attack, unfortunitly, it will probably end up being put down.

Gee, the dingos in the Simpson just lick your face when you get 'disoriented' and forget to go to bed....bad breath too. I've never gone from disoriented to sober so fast haha.

That bloke wasn't being attacked, he was being eaten - how drunk do you have to be?

If you get drunk and cannot feel a dingo biting , you must be nearly dead from alcoholic poisoning . Something has to die for most things to survive . Vern

Ross

That's what multiculturism has done to our dingo's ! In the old days they would have been happy with lamb chops and 3 veg but now it seems they need more variety such as sauerkraut and bratwurst !

I have another trip orginised across the Simpson in September - think I will call it the " Schnapps and Jagermeister I'm disorientated what track shall I sleep on tonight and make sure I wake up before my legs are missing tour "

And if things go to plan - Jeff from Mt Dare can do another recovery and bring out the panadol and berocca and a compass to sort out our disorientation !!

Cheers
