Free camp spots north of Perth

Hi guys

Wanting to see if anyone knows of any overnight freecamp spots north of Perth on the Brand Hwy. We have a 28ft onroad van. Had a look at the Camps Australia Wide 5 book and the first one we come across is Waddi Farm Resort which has dirt road. We have already done two tyres since we started 2 months ago so we have become overly cautious.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Chell

The coastal Shires to the north of Perth do not allow camping outside of caravan parks and authorised campgrounds. Main Roads WA provide good overnight rest areas along major highways, but none between Perth and Geraldton. There are rest areas, some with dump points. If wanting to rest overnight by stopping late and leaving early you may not be noticed.

Clint & Chell,
Hi, try traveling north on West Coast Drive to Cliff Head North, just short of T junction to Brand Hwy. 500m of good gravel, road Easy turn around for your rig. All to yourself mid week. Short run in to Dongra, try the goodies at the bakery

Ellenbrook Pool is a good free campsite with plenty of access for your van. Turn off the Brand Highway at Greenough just past the 'S' bend and follow the signs

Hi DingoBlue

Isn't Ellendale Pool $5 per person?

I wasn't thinking of a far north as Geraldton where is have listed:

"Geraldton - Ellendale Pool: 45 kilometres south east of the city. (Pass through small settlement of Walkaway on way to pool) $5 per person per night. Dogs on leads. Dump point provided. Basic toilets, barbecue area, nice walking area and swimming spot. Fig Tree Crossing: Fifteen kilometres north east of the city on Chapman Valley Road on the way to Nanson/Nabawa. Free with maximum 48 hour stay. Dogs on leads.Dump point provided. Basic toilet and covered picnic areas provided."

2 Tyres in two months on-road – How old are your tyres, are they of light truck construction?
We have done 2 loops of Australia in a standard on-road 24 foot van (about 3 tonne loaded) – Includes thousands of Ks on gravel and rough dirt roads. No tyre damage.
