For the reords

Return Trip from Adelaide to Port Lincoln via Melrose 1972 km
Fuel use 377.64 liters ULP
fuel consumption figures liters per 100km
Best 14.53
Worst 22.78
Average over trip 19.15

Towing 17 foot Vicount Grand Tourer (1985) single axel at 1480kg.

Able to cruise comfortable at 90kph in overdrive on cruise control, rig stable and recorded overtaking speed at 140kph (boy that was a surprise).

Worst fuel recorded coming home into a head wind (not strong) but van a real big box thing with no aerodynamics.

Van came off road into gravel shoulder on rh sweep and did beaut wobble, scared the bejeezus outa navigator but car did not move van stabilzed quickly.

I'm pleased with the rig and its performance.

Port Lincoln nice spot worth a visit, Kirton CP has all drive through sites but most too narrow to put up annex. rate it 7/10

The CP at Melrose is 10/10 refurbished amenities and the atomoshpere is just perfect.

I hope I haven't bored y'all,ut it was my holiday.

Russell, perhaps you should lock it out of overdrive when towing a big box, particularly in head winds as slogging in O/D with a load can use more fuel than a free spinning motor on light throttle.
Also have heard of V.expensive repairs needed on Patrol auto from towing in O/D.
Might be like my Triton TD manual which is a bit weak in 5th gear so best to avoid loading it up in 5th.
Other more learned 4wd'ers may have more to say.

The issue of straining o/d was on my mind quite a lot so after inital leg reserved o/d for down grades to lessen the stress. Your comments will cement my suspicions and will take your advice.

Thanks
