G`day all,

" Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1" P5100 32GB 3G Wi-Fi Tablet PC "

Before I lay out good money and buy it, I would very much appreciate it if you fellow "forumites" who may have a tablet set up for remote traveling, could have a look at the specs for this one,( model P5100), and tell me if you think it will be suitable. Maybe a 16 GB will do ?

I want to have maps, photos, trip planning, pio`s, internet, GPS, Wi-Fi, Blue Tooth, waypoints, tv etc, etc, etc,.........

I have the 64Gb model GT-P7500 with 3G and Wi-Fi.
Pretty much what you state, except for the extra storage capacity.

I have it set up with the Android version of OziExplorer, plus the NatMap collection and Hema collection of digital maps.
Works like a charm. Remember though that this is a beta version of the android OxiExplorer and any minor issues will be ironed out in further releases.

It mounts to the dash with a mount and holder from www.holdmyphone.com.
You just specify what vehicle you have and select the suitable mount.

I would stick to the 32Gb model at least. You may find the 16Gb will not have sufficient storage as you add things to it and you cannot install extra capacity afterwards.

Tip. To reduce glare in the vehicle, I have fitted my tablet with a matt finish anti-glare protection film I got from a shopping centre phone accessories stall.
About $20 and the stall assistant fitted it to my tablet on the spot.

From memory, it was the Phone Mania stall at our local shopping centre.
Stores are listed in all mainland states, under Happytel, Phone Adore and Phone Mania.

They are stalls in the major shopping centres where you by phone accessories.

We have the SS Galaxy 2 10.1 and tried to buy the leather cover that we have seen with other tablets.

Have you got such a cover and if so where did you get it, a link would help.

Do you really need the 3G version, from memory it costs extra and to me its a pain to use. We have the 4G modem and with wifi I think its a cheaper Web access cost alternative. ie 12Gb for $180 for a year from Big T that you can top up.

Having said that ours has 3g

I was told that a 3G model will work faster than via a wifi ....don't know if this is fact . If you don't have smart type hot spot phone the 3G will work out cheaper ?

I note that ASUS have brought out a device they call a pad phone. It is a pad and phone that work together. It appears that you attach the phone to the pad to provide internet connection but if you want to go somewhere with just the phone simply undock it and off you go. Clever.
