We are thinking of travelling from
Sydney via the
Flinders Ranges to
Birdsville and then onto
Normanton in the first 3 weeks of November. Is that an OK time to do the trip? More in terms of road conditions.
Thank you in anticipation of your good advice

Robyn,
Check out thread 98020, which will have info that applies to your planned trip, albeit with a different destination.
Temps in
Marree,
Birdsville and
Normanton will all be in the high 30's, so don't bother packing more than a light jacket. When you get to
Normanton, the humidity will make you think you're still in
Sydney, so you shouldn't get homesick.
Tyres, cooling system and aircon should all be 100%, and take a light tarp to provide your own shade, if you need to stop in the middle of the day. Mungerannie is a great place to stop, for a burger, or "One with the Lot"(300mm high!!!!)
Birdsville Pub has lovely rooms, with aircons, that you might like to use, after a hot trip up the Track.
If you're lucky to jag some coolish weather you'll wonder what I've been going on about. If it's at the extreme end of the temperature range, drink lots of rum, you won't feel anything then.
Bob.

A word of caution.
We came south down the Strz on 11th November 2009.
The temperature was in the very high 40s and there was a 30 knot wind.
A
breakdown, even a flat tyre would not have been a pleasant prospect and we would have required
parking until night (without any airconditioning), at least.
Don't expect to see any other traffic at this time of year.
Cheers,
Peter
