hi all,
my folks have asked me to find them some accomodation in nsw hunter valley (pokolbin, lovedale, rothbury area) for a wedding in early december.
i cant seem to find anything but all these flash estates & lodges which start at about $199 per night.
they have a
well equiped van & are willing to snig that down to the area if they were able to find a nice caravan park....
i dont know the area to
well & neither do they...
a search revealed not to much by the way of caravan parks down that way....
if anyone can help with some nice
places to stay it would be much appreciated..
motels / hotels or van parks, anything at the moment....
thanks in advance

Hi Smithy,
We had this problem late in 2010. We ended up staying at a caravan park at Hexham and it was full of workers for the local smelter.
The manager only keeps two sites for tourists.
At the time I rang as far out as
Singleton but no luck. Same story , full of workers.
There is a nice park at
Stockton but probably too far away for you.
Best of luck, sounds like things have not changed down there.

things have changed.
the smelter has been shut down!
only a handfull of employees to keep it running till its properly shut down.
things arent going too good up here.
lots of people losing jobs, coal price has halved.
book it now as venues have concerts over the summer period, and are usualy fully booked.

Hi Smithy,
The Cessnock
Heritage Inn is reasonably rated if there is a room available. It is in the main street of Cessnock. We have stayed there a couple of times. It's basic but clean. Hope this helps.
Good Luck,
Sally

G'day smithy. I am a local coach driver. I can tell you that 1/12 and 8/12 are two very big concerts in Pokolbin, and booked accomodation is probably already impossible to find within 50 k's of the area, including the local C/P,Valley Vineyard Tourist park as previously mentioned.
Have a look
HERE if they want to bring their caravan. It is a good option for this area at any time.
Cheers Fred.

Hi Smithy,
I get the impression your folks are coming down from Queensland. If so then tell your folks to stay at
Lake Glenbawn after the wedding if they have the time. It is just up the
New England Highway near Aberdeen/
Scone way. ($23 per night)
Camping right on the waters edge if you like. We did and it was magic.
And if they do and they like it then they can give Bowling Alley Point a go for the same reason. ($5 per night) Bowling Alley Point is on the
Chaffey Dam just east of
Tamworth on the
Nundle Road.
Cheers, Bruce.
